'Crazy Rich Asians' Delivers $34M Five-Day Opening; 'Mile 22' & 'Alpha' Fall Short

by Brad Brevet

Aug. 19 - August may be a slow month, but Warner Bros. made a splash last weekend with The Meg and this weekend saw Crazy Rich Asians deliver an estimated $34 million in its first five days of release. Unfortunately, the weekend's two other new wide releases, STX's Mile 22 and Sony's Alpha, weren't able to have such splashy debuts.
